The Avilla Chamber of Commerce held a Christmas Tree Decorating Contest for local businesses and organizations for the second year in a row. This year all the trees were displayed in storefronts on Albion Street starting at Main Street heading east. Last year, two participants had their decorated trees at their place of business, but all others were in Albion Street storefronts.
The contest ran from December 2nd through December 16th and had five participants. Each tree was uniquely decorated with care and together, lit up the downtown. All voting was online at either the Chamber website or Facebook page this year. With 127 votes, the $100 prize winner of the contest was the Avilla Calvary United Methodist Church’s tree.
The Noble County Public Library East tree came in second place, receiving 125 votes. In third place was the Avilla Liquors tree, receiving 111 votes. In fourth place was the Avilla Chamber of Commerce tree, receiving 94 votes. In the last place was the R&C Fab tree, with a total of 88 votes received.
The Chamber also held a Christmas Home Decorating Contest which was open to all residents in the 46710 zip code, but it was canceled after the entry deadline, due to insufficient participation. They plan to hold both contests again next year and strive to make them bigger and better each year.
